Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated yesterday that while the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China remains sensitive, it is currently stable. Speaking at a press conference ahead of Army Day, General Dwivedi acknowledged ongoing tensions and emphasized the need to rebuild trust between the Indian and Chinese armies.
He mentioned that traditional activities like patrolling and grazing of animals have resumed in the Depsang and Demchok regions, areas of previous conflict from which both sides withdrew last October. Assuring the nation of the army’s preparedness, he said, “Our deployment is strong, and we are capable of handling any situation.”
General Dwivedi also highlighted the army’s focus on improving border infrastructure and capacity development along the LAC to ensure better security and readiness.
Commenting on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, he noted that it is largely under control, with the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan on the Line of Control (LoC) holding firm. However, he pointed out that infiltration attempts from Pakistan continue, supported by an active terrorist infrastructure across the border. He revealed that 60% of the terrorists killed last year were of Pakistani origin.
The Army Chief’s remarks underline the challenges India faces along its borders while emphasizing the army’s readiness to address them effectively.
