As the New Year begins, Punjab is experiencing harsh winter conditions. Keeping the situation in view, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has urged people to remain cautious. The IMD has issued a district-wise weather alert for Punjab from January 2 to January 5, 2026.

According to the forecast, dense fog is likely to persist on January 2 and 3. In several districts, very dense fog may occur along with cold wave conditions or cold day situations. Temperatures in south-western Punjab are expected to remain below normal. During this period, a rain alert has also been issued for some districts.
The weather department has stated that on January 4 and 5, there may be slight improvement in weather conditions in a few areas. However, the impact of the cold wave is likely to continue in some regions. As per IMD, a western disturbance is becoming active from Saturday, which may further increase cold conditions. Strong winds are expected, and foggy conditions may continue.
The IMD has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel due to fog and extreme cold. Drivers are urged to be extra cautious while driving. Special care should be taken of elderly people, children, and those who are ill. Farmers have also been advised to take necessary steps to protect their crops and livestock during this cold spell.
