The Congress party asserted today that the Modi government’s decision to offer free Covid-19 vaccinations was a result of relentless pressure from the opposition and the intervention of the Supreme Court. Highlighting what they perceive as mismanagement during the pandemic, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh emphasized that the government’s response cannot be overlooked.
Speaking on ‘X’, Mr. Ramesh stated, “The Modi government’s touted provision of free Covid-19 vaccines as its major achievement is misleading. In reality, it was compelled to act due to opposition pressure and Supreme Court intervention.” He referred to Dr. Manmohan Singh’s letter to the Prime Minister on April 18, 2021, urging clarification on the vaccination policy and proposing strategies to enhance the vaccination drive.
The Congress’s assertion underscores a broader political debate surrounding the handling of the Covid-19 crisis and the subsequent vaccination rollout. As the nation continues to battle the pandemic, the role of opposition pressure and judicial oversight in influencing government policy remains a point of contention.
