India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently announced that under ‘Operation Sindhur’, the Indian Army targeted Pakistani military positions near the border, and its impact was felt as far as Rawalpindi, the headquarters of the Pakistan Army. He emphasized that BrahMos missiles are not just weapons, but a strong message of India’s growing military strength.

Speaking virtually at the inauguration of a BrahMos missile integration and testing centre in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Singh said that India is now among the most powerful nations in the world. He believes this new centre will further strengthen India’s defence capabilities.

Singh highlighted that BrahMos is one of the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in the world and a symbol of India’s commitment to border security. He added that this centre is a big step towards self-reliance in the defence sector. The project was completed in just 40 months, showing India’s efficiency in defence production.

The Defence Minister also spoke about the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor, which will pass through Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Agra, and Aligarh. These cities are expected to become new centres of development in the future.

He mentioned the role of both public and private sectors in this project. Private company PTC Industries Limited is starting a plant for titanium and super-alloy materials, and seven more important defence projects are being planned.

India is making large investments in areas like aircraft manufacturing, drones, ammunition, small arms, and parachutes. Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, engineers, and other contributors, saying this event was even more special as it coincided with National Technology Day, which marks India’s 1998 nuclear test in Pokhran led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
