The southwest monsoon has rapidly advanced across parts of India, bringing a change in weather conditions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in several regions from June 9 to June 13. States like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Assam, and Meghalaya are expected to experience intense weather activity. Along with rainfall, lightning strikes and waterlogging have also been predicted. People are advised to stay alert and follow regular weather updates.
Weather Changes After June 11 in North India
In Uttar Pradesh, the weather is likely to remain dry until June 10. However, starting from June 11, districts such as Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Deoria, Lucknow, Bahraich, Balrampur, Kushinagar, and Azamgarh may see light to moderate rainfall.
On June 12 and 13, the weather may become more intense, with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall expected. Wind speeds could reach 30–50 km/h. The Lucknow Meteorological Centre has advised farmers to complete harvesting and drying activities soon. Farmers and residents are also cautioned to avoid open fields during lightning.
Heavy Rainfall in Uttarakhand’s Hilly Areas
From June 11 to 13, Uttarakhand is likely to experience heavy rainfall in hilly regions. Landslides may occur on mountain roads. Travelers are advised to avoid unnecessary journeys and follow the instructions of local authorities. Winds may blow at 40–50 km/h, which may lead to tree falls and possible damage to electric lines.
Southern States on Alert for Torrential Rain
In South India, heavy rain is expected between June 10 and 13 in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Red alerts have been issued in Kerala and coastal Karnataka due to extremely heavy rain. People are advised not to stand under trees or use electronic devices connected to power during storms.
Experts warn that stagnant water can damage crops, so proper drainage arrangements should be made. Warnings have also been issued for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and Nagaland for widespread rain during this period.
Dust Storms and Heatwave in Delhi-NCR
The National Capital Region may see temperatures rising to 42–44°C between June 8 and 10. Dust storms and strong hot winds will reduce visibility and increase heat stress. Older adults, children, and those with health issues are advised to avoid going out during the afternoon. Wearing light-colored clothes and staying hydrated with water and cool drinks is recommended.
Rough Sea Conditions in Coastal Areas
Strong waves and thunderstorms are expected over the Andaman Sea, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea between June 7 and 11. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
Conclusion
With the monsoon advancing, different parts of India are facing a mix of intense weather conditions. From dry spells and heatwaves in the north to heavy rainfall and sea storms in the south and northeast, the public is urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to remain safe.
