Prime Minister Narendra Modi today urged increased investment in domestic semiconductor production, highlighting the crucial role of a strong supply chain in supporting the economy. Speaking at the ‘Semicon-2024’ convention in Greater Noida, near Delhi, Modi emphasized that semiconductors are the foundation of all advanced technology products, from smartphones to electric vehicles and artificial intelligence (AI).
The Prime Minister pointed out that the global COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of a reliable supply chain. He stressed the need to take proactive steps to prevent future disruptions in these critical supply lines. “Strengthening the supply chain is very important,” Modi stated, adding that India is actively working to develop supply chains across various sectors of the economy.
During his address, Modi also highlighted his government’s reformist policies and stable governance, which have created a favorable environment for investment in semiconductor manufacturing. He pointed out that India has leveraged technology to build a strong foundation for this sector.
Encouraging global semiconductor industry partners to invest in India, Modi declared, “This is the right time to be present in India,” signaling the government’s commitment to advancing the country’s semiconductor capabilities.
