A protest demanding the resignation of the Governor and DGP in the state turned violent today, leading to clashes between students and security forces. The situation escalated as a large number of students gathered at the Raj Bhavan, pelting stones at the main gate and security personnel stationed there. The stone-throwing resulted in injuries to at least twenty people.
The protest is rooted in ongoing unrest in Manipur, where violence between the Kuki and Maitai communities has been intensifying since last year. The escalation in tensions has fueled widespread discontent, culminating in today’s violent demonstration.
In response to the stone-pelting, police resorted to lathi-charge at several locations in an attempt to disperse the crowd and restore order. The clashes have heightened concerns over the growing instability in the region, with calls for the resignation of top officials reflecting deepening mistrust among the public.
As the situation continues to unfold, authorities are on high alert, seeking to prevent further violence and address the grievances that have led to this volatile situation.
