The Punjab Government has signed an important agreement to implement the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme, under which every family in the state will get ₹10 lakh cashless health insurance every year. The agreement was signed in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh with United India Insurance Company.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will officially launch the scheme on 15 January, and Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal will also attend the event.
The provision for this scheme was made in the 2025–26 Punjab Budget, and the ₹10 lakh insurance cover was announced in March 2025. After around nine and a half months, the scheme is now ready for formal implementation. Sources say the government had to make serious efforts to find a suitable insurance company to run this large scheme.

The agreement was signed by Sanyam Agarwal, CEO of Punjab State Health Agency (SHA), and Matthew George, Executive Director of United India Insurance Company.
Dr. Balbir Singh said that earlier the government was providing ₹5 lakh health cover, which was limited to certain categories. Now, this amount has been doubled to ₹10 lakh and extended to all residents of Punjab, including government employees and pensioners. The insurance will be provided per family per year and will be completely cashless.
There is no income limit and no exclusion criteria under this scheme. Registration can be done through Common Service Centres (CSCs) using Aadhaar Card and Voter ID. After registration, beneficiaries will receive a dedicated MMSY Health Card.
Currently, 824 hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme, and more hospitals will be added in the future. This scheme is expected to provide major relief to Punjab families by reducing their medical expenses and ensuring better access to quality healthcare.
