The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings was abandoned due to rain on Saturday. The match, held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, saw only one over of KKR’s innings before heavy rain and strong winds forced officials to call off the game.
Earlier, Punjab Kings won the toss and decided to bat first. Their opening pair, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, gave the team a flying start. Both batsmen played attacking cricket and added a strong 120-run partnership.
Priyansh Arya was particularly impressive, scoring 69 runs from just 35 balls, smashing 8 fours and 4 sixes. His innings ended in the 12th over when Andre Russell dismissed him. Prabhsimran Singh continued the aggressive approach and reached his half-century quickly. He went on to score 83 runs from 49 balls before getting out in the 15th over.
After their dismissals, Glenn Maxwell came in to bat but failed to make an impact. He was dismissed for just 8 runs by Varun Chakravarthy. Despite the minor collapse, Punjab Kings managed to post a strong total of 201 runs in their 20 overs.
When Kolkata Knight Riders came out to chase the target, only one over could be bowled. Soon after, strong winds and heavy rain hit the stadium, making it impossible to continue the match. As a result, the match was officially abandoned without a result.
Punjab’s strong batting performance, especially from Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, was the highlight of the short-lived match. However, the weather played the spoilsport, and both teams had to share points.
