A senior political leader and former Union minister passed away early Tuesday morning in Pune after a prolonged illness. He was 81 years old. Family sources said he breathed his last at around 3:30 a.m., marking the end of a long public life dedicated to politics and sports administration.
He had served as a Union minister of state for railways and was also a former president of the national Olympic body. Known as a prominent leader from Pune, he represented the city in the national parliament multiple times and played an active role in public life for several decades. Along with politics, he remained closely associated with sports administration at the national level for many years.

Leaders from different political parties expressed deep sorrow over his demise and remembered him as an experienced administrator and influential public figure.
Many highlighted his long association with civic and national issues and his contribution to public service.
He is survived by his wife, son, daughters, daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. His mortal remains will be kept at his residence till 2:00 p.m. to allow people to pay their last respects.
The final rites will be performed later in the afternoon at a local cremation ground in Pune. His passing marks the end of an important chapter in the city’s political history.
