Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that progress could be made within the next 10 days on security guarantees for Kyiv. His statement came after meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump and several European leaders. Speaking at a press briefing, Zelensky explained that partners may soon “open” security guarantees, with more details to follow in official documents next week.
On Monday, Trump assured Zelensky that the United States would help ensure Ukraine’s security in any deal to end the war with Russia, although the exact scope of American support was not clear. Zelensky called this a major step forward, saying the U.S. is sending a strong signal that it will play a key role as a partner in security guarantees.
The Ukrainian leader described his meeting with Trump as “the best so far,” but admitted that a full peace agreement with Moscow still appears distant. Zelensky also said he is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin “in any format,” though no date has been set.
He added that part of the security package involves U.S. weapons support worth around $90 billion, including aircraft and air defense systems.
