The Bombay High Court, on Friday, overturned a special court’s decision that had allowed Indrani Mukherjee, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, to travel abroad. The ruling came from a single-judge bench led by Justice Shyam Chandak, after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) appealed against the lower court’s order.

Indrani Mukherjee had been granted permission by a special court on July 19 to visit Europe, including Spain and the UK. However, the High Court blocked this travel, citing concerns over her being a key accused in a serious crime. The court expressed worry that there was a high risk of her fleeing the country while facing trial for a major felony.

The CBI, in its appeal, had argued that allowing Mukherjee to leave the country could jeopardize the ongoing legal proceedings. The High Court agreed with the agency, stressing that Mukherjee’s trial is of serious nature and that she should not be permitted to travel internationally. This decision keeps Mukherjee’s movements restricted while her legal case continues in court.
