Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar has landed in controversy after a video surfaced online. In the clip, Pawar is allegedly seen pressuring a woman IPS officer to stop action against illegal mining. The case is linked to muram excavation, a material used in road construction.
The officer, Krishna, was leading a team against illegal digging when tensions rose between villagers and local NCP workers, including Baba Jagtap. Jagtap handed over his phone to the officer after contacting Pawar directly. In the video, Pawar appears upset when Krishna refused to accept his identity on the call and instead asked him to call her directly. Pawar reportedly warned, “I will take action against you. How dare you?” Later, he confirmed his identity via video call and instructed her to stop the action. Krishna explained she could not recognize his voice earlier.
Defending Pawar, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare said the conversation was “misinterpreted” and Pawar only tried to calm party workers, not stop legal action. So far, no police complaint has been registered, while revenue officials involved have remained silent, citing an ongoing internal inquiry.
