Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav voiced his support for the ongoing protest in Ladakh, led by environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, urging that the Ladakh issue should be treated as a “top priority.” Yadav emphasized the importance of preserving the region’s unique ecosystem and the livelihood of the local communities.
In a post on social media platform X, Yadav highlighted the challenges faced by the Pashmina shepherds of Ladakh. He expressed concern about the encroachment on grazing lands, noting that this poses a serious threat to the sheep, goats, and related products that are the backbone of the region’s economy. He said, “An attempt to save Ladakh is also an attempt to save our border land.”
Yadav underscored that the well-being of Ladakh’s communities should be at the forefront of national priorities. He stressed that protecting the grazing lands is crucial not only for the Pashmina industry but also for safeguarding the local culture and economy. By extending his support to the protest, Yadav joins other voices advocating for the sustainable development of the region, which plays a vital role in maintaining the delicate balance at India’s northern borders.
