The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today criticized the nomination of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the Congress candidate from Wayanad, calling it a victory for family politics and a defeat for meritocracy. During a press conference at the BJP headquarters, national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accused the Gandhi family of promoting dynastic politics while sidelining merit within the Congress party.
Bhatia also alleged that Priyanka Gandhi’s nomination process insulted Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, implying that the Gandhi family continued to overshadow other leaders in the party. He referred to the Gandhi family as the embodiment of “corruption and dynastic politics,” asserting that Priyanka Gandhi’s political rise was based on her family name rather than her contributions.
Additionally, Bhatia questioned the assets declared by Priyanka Gandhi in her election affidavit, suggesting that most of the wealth came from her husband, Robert Vadra, whose declared net worth is significantly lower. He accused the Congress of favoritism, stating that Priyanka Gandhi had been given prominent roles in the party despite not fulfilling the responsibilities assigned to her.
Meanwhile, the election race in Wayanad saw other candidates, including LDF candidate Satyan Mokri and BJP candidate Navya Haridas, formally submitting their nominations for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. The upcoming elections are expected to be fiercely contested in this key constituency.
