BSP and BJP Announce Candidates for UP By-Elections; SP Names Three More Candidates

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have each announced a list of eight candidates for the upcoming by-elections on November 13 for nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has also revealed the names of three more candidates.

According to BSP’s list released by National General Secretary Mewalal Gautam, Amit Verma has been fielded for Kathari, Jitendra Kumar Singh for Phulpur, Shah Nazar for Mirapur, and Virendra Kumar Shukla for Sisamau. Other candidates include Avnish Kumar Shakya for Karhal, Raftullah for Kundarki, Parmanand Garg for Ghaziabad, and Deepak Tiwari for Majhwan.

The BJP has nominated Anujesh Yadav, cousin of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, for the Karhal seat, setting up a contest within the Yadav family. On the Mirapur seat, BJP’s ally RLD has chosen Mithlesh Pal as their candidate. BJP’s list also includes former BSP MLA Dharmaraj Nishad for Kathari, Suchismita Maurya for Majhwan, Suresh Awasthi for Sisamau, Deepak Patel for Phulpur, Surendra Diler for Khair, Sanjeev Sharma for Ghaziabad, and Ramveer Singh Thakur for Kunderki.

These by-elections are expected to witness fierce competition among the major political parties in Uttar Pradesh.
