Former Akali Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who is currently in Nabha’s New Jail after being arrested by Punjab Police in a case related to alleged disproportionate assets, appeared in the Mohali court today for a bail hearing.
During the court session, lawyers from both sides — the prosecution and the defense — presented their arguments before the judge. The government lawyer argued against the bail, citing the seriousness of the charges, while Majithia’s defense lawyer asked for bail, stating that the case is politically motivated and that he is fully cooperating with the investigation.
After hearing both sides, the court decided not to deliver a decision today and instead scheduled the next hearing for August 8.
Majithia is accused of owning assets far beyond his known sources of income. His arrest has caused a political stir in Punjab, with his party calling it a case of political vendetta. The upcoming court date will be crucial in deciding whether Majithia will be released on bail or remain in custody during the investigation. All eyes are now on the court’s next move on August 8.
