India is seeing another small rise in COVID-19 cases. As of Sunday morning, the total number of active cases across the country reached 6,133. In the last 24 hours, six people lost their lives to the virus — with deaths reported in the southern states.

Kerala continues to report the highest number of cases, with 1,950 active patients. Other states such as Gujarat, West Bengal, and Delhi are also seeing an increase in new infections. Delhi alone recorded 21 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, bringing its total active cases to 686.

Health experts say this recent rise in infections is mainly due to new Omicron sub-variants like JN.1, NB.1.8.1, LF.7, and XFC. These variants spread more easily, but most people experience only mild symptoms such as cough, sore throat, and tiredness. Still, doctors warn that elderly people, pregnant women, and those with weak immunity should be careful and seek medical help if symptoms get worse.

On a positive note, more than 750 patients recovered and were discharged in the past 24 hours. Hospitals and health centres are also better prepared now, with enough oxygen and medicines available.

The virus has not disappeared completely. Experts say it now behaves more like the seasonal flu, coming in waves but not causing widespread emergency situations like before. However, people are advised to stay alert, especially if they have health problems. Using masks in crowded places, maintaining hygiene, and monitoring symptoms can help prevent the spread.

The health ministry continues to monitor the situation and has advised all states to stay ready with medical support and testing facilities. India is better prepared, but awareness and precautions are still important for everyone.
