As air pollution levels continue to climb, the government is calling on states and Union Territories to step up health personnel deployment and prepare for potential weather impacts during the festive season and winter. The Union Health Ministry has advised citizens to adopt measures to protect their health, such as using public transportation and avoiding crowded areas.
Dr. Atul Goyal, Director General of Health Services, recently sent a letter to state and Union Territory authorities, emphasizing the importance of controlling sources of pollution. The letter calls for efforts to reduce stubble burning, control waste burning, and limit the use of firecrackers during festivals. Additionally, Dr. Goyal advised promoting public transport options and reducing reliance on diesel-powered generators to help curb emissions.
These steps are particularly important as winter approaches, a season when pollution tends to worsen due to cooler temperatures and decreased air circulation. The Health Ministry’s recommendations aim to lessen the health impacts on the population, especially among children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues.
By cooperating and following these guidelines, citizens and government agencies can work together to help reduce pollution and protect public health during this challenging season.
