Schools and Colleges Closed
Due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, schools and colleges in several districts including Una, Kullu, and Mandi were closed. In Una’s Amb and Gagret subdivisions, all educational institutions remained shut. Similar closures were reported in Manali and Banjar areas of Kullu, as well as in parts of Mandi. Officials said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of children.
Floods and Damage
In Kullu’s Shastri Nagar, flash floods damaged houses and vehicles. However, according to Kullu Nagar Council President Mahant Gopal Das, no loss of life was reported. Water flow also increased dangerously in Bhubu, Kungri, and nearby streams.
Roads Blocked
The State Emergency Operation Centre reported that 362 roads, including three national highways, were blocked as of this morning. These included Mandi-Kullu Road (NH-21), Mandi-Jogindernagar Road (NH-154), and Aut-Sainj Road (NH-305).
Weather Alert
The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain between August 24 and 26. Since the beginning of monsoon on June 20, the state has suffered losses of over ₹2,211 crore due to 74 flash floods, 38 cloudbursts, and 72 landslides.
Dharamshala Ropeway Suspended
Landslides near pillar number 5 forced officials to suspend the Dharamshala-McLeodganj ropeway service for passenger safety.
