In a major development for peace in the region, the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan have agreed to stop all firing and military actions across land, air, and sea. This ceasefire will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025. The announcement was made by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a press briefing in New Delhi.

According to Mr. Misri, the DGMO of Pakistan called his Indian counterpart at 3:35 p.m. today. During the call, both sides discussed the current tensions and agreed to immediately halt all military activities. This includes stopping firing along the border, as well as any air and naval operations.

This significant step comes just after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States had helped mediate talks between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. President Trump said that both India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire. The role played by the U.S. in facilitating this agreement is being seen as a positive diplomatic move.

This decision has been welcomed by many political leaders and peace advocates across the country. The Indian National Congress has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to now hold an all-party meeting to discuss the way forward. A spokesperson from Congress said, “With India and Pakistan agreeing to an immediate ceasefire, it is now more important than ever for the Prime Minister to take all political parties into confidence and ensure unity in this crucial time.”

The ceasefire comes after a period of rising tension along the border and across the Line of Control (LoC), where both countries had been exchanging fire regularly. Civilians living in border areas have suffered the most due to the ongoing conflict. Many have lost their lives, homes, and family members in the crossfire. With the announcement of the ceasefire, people in these regions are now hoping for peace and stability.

Security experts have also welcomed the move but warned that both sides must now focus on maintaining the ceasefire in the long term. Peace between India and Pakistan has often been short-lived due to past violations. Experts suggest that strong communication and regular dialogue between both militaries will be essential to uphold this new agreement.

This development is being seen as a ray of hope for South Asia. If both countries continue to respect the ceasefire and build trust, it could lead to more positive steps in the future. People from both nations hope that this peace agreement will not just be temporary, but a beginning of a new chapter based on dialogue, respect, and cooperation.

For now, the world is watching as India and Pakistan take this bold step towards peace. The success of this agreement will depend on the actions taken by both sides in the coming days and weeks.
