The upcoming Vice President election in India is scheduled for September 9. According to sources, the opposition alliance ‘INDIA’ is considering putting forward a non-political candidate for the position. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reportedly discussed this idea with leaders from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and other opposition parties.

This move is seen as an attempt to present a united front and possibly attract support beyond traditional political lines. On the other side, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has given Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President J.P. Nadda the responsibility to choose their candidate.

The Vice President post became vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar unexpectedly resigned on July 21, citing health issues. Dhankhar’s sudden exit created political buzz, with both alliances now preparing their strategies for the election.

If the INDIA bloc selects a respected non-political figure, it could add an interesting twist to the contest. The final decision from both sides is expected soon, and the race for the country’s second-highest constitutional post is likely to become a key political event in September.
