The Israeli army today urged residents to completely evacuate Gaza City ahead of its planned military campaign in northern Gaza. This is the first time during the ongoing war that Israel has asked for the entire city to be cleared, instead of issuing partial evacuation warnings.
Eyewitnesses reported heavy movement of cars and trucks packed with people and belongings, heading from northern Gaza to the south. Many families said they had no choice but to leave their homes under fear of intense attacks.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed that 30 high-rise buildings in Gaza have already been destroyed, accusing Hamas of using them for military purposes. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier announced plans to demolish at least 50 “towers of terror” that Hamas allegedly uses for operations. In recent days, several tall structures in Gaza City have been reduced to rubble, which Israel claims were used as surveillance posts.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen. The Palestinian Health Ministry said that in the past 24 hours, six Palestinians died due to hunger and malnutrition, bringing the total deaths from such causes since June to 259, including 140 children since the war began in October 2023.
