Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered a judicial inquiry into the alleged torture of an army officer and the ‘sexual harassment’ of his fiancée at a local police station. According to an official notification, the state government has appointed a commission led by retired High Court judge Justice Chitranjan Das to investigate the matter.
The commission will examine the incident, the surrounding circumstances, and assess the conduct, role, and accountability of the officers involved. The inquiry aims to uncover the truth behind the allegations and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. The inquiry report is expected to be submitted within 60 days.
Additionally, the commission has been tasked with suggesting measures to prevent such incidents in the future and ensuring the safety and protection of women. This step has been taken following public outrage and demands for justice.
Chief Minister Majhi emphasized that the government is committed to upholding law and order and will take appropriate action based on the findings of the inquiry. The investigation is seen as a crucial step in restoring public confidence in the state’s police and ensuring justice for the victims.
