On 11 August, opposition leaders and Members of Parliament will march from Parliament to the Election Commission office to protest alleged election fraud. The march will be led by Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, along with leaders from other INDIA bloc parties. The opposition has also requested a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner and the other two Election Commissioners. The march is expected to start around 11:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer has issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi, asking him to share documents he used to claim that a woman named Shakun Rani voted twice. Gandhi had shown these documents at a press conference last week. However, during inquiry, Shakun Rani stated she voted only once. The initial investigation also found that the document presented by Gandhi was not issued by the election officer.
On the same evening, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will host a dinner for INDIA bloc MPs at Taj Palace Hotel in Chanakyapuri. This will likely serve as a strategy meeting ahead of the protest and other political plans. The developments highlight rising political tensions over alleged electoral irregularities.
