Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria today assured that the Central Government will leave no stone unturned in helping the flood-affected people of the state. He said that the Centre and the Punjab Government will work together to bring people out of this difficult situation.

His statement comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a relief package of ₹1,600 crore for flood-hit Punjab on Tuesday. However, farmers, their unions, and almost all political parties (except BJP) have expressed disappointment. They believe the package is very small compared to the huge loss caused by floods.

The Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab Government has estimated the total damage at around ₹13,800 crore and demanded a relief package of ₹20,000 crore from the Centre.

Speaking on his way back from Pathankot to Chandigarh this morning, Governor Kataria said, “I conducted an aerial survey of the flood situation. Although the water level has started to come down, the damage to houses and crops is very high.”

He assured, “In the coming days, one hundred percent more support will be provided.”

Meanwhile, the Governor also visited a Mohali hospital today to check on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh, who is admitted there.
