Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP-led central government after a stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra railway station, calling it a stark example of India’s deteriorating infrastructure. In a message on X, Gandhi remarked that while inaugurations and campaigns are essential, they are only meaningful if backed by a reliable infrastructure that truly benefits the public. He expressed concern that neglect and poor maintenance have led to life-threatening incidents where public assets fail soon after being unveiled.

Gandhi highlighted the need for world-class infrastructure that meets the needs of all citizens, especially the underprivileged, facilitates trade, and ensures safe, convenient travel. He emphasized that India has the potential to achieve this but requires a transparent and efficient system to do so.

The Bandra station incident has ignited a debate on infrastructure quality and maintenance across the country, with calls for immediate action to prevent further tragedies. Gandhi’s comments reflect a broader demand for infrastructure that is sustainable, people-oriented, and capable of supporting India’s growing population and urbanization.
