The water level in Bhakra Dam has reached close to the danger mark, forcing authorities to release nearly 85,000 cusecs into the Sutlej River. At the same time, the Ghaggar River has also swollen, creating a flood-like situation in parts of Punjab and Haryana. The administrations of Patiala and Sangrur have issued alerts, asking villagers to move to higher and safer locations. In several places, the Ghaggar has already overflowed.

At Harchandpura village, state government teams and local residents have begun strengthening embankments to prevent breaches. Near Siralan Kalan village, Ghaggar water has entered the Narwana Branch, sending about 4,000 cusecs into Haryana. Meanwhile, floodwater from areas near Mohali is now entering the Sutlej-Yamuna canal. The inflow from the Tangri and Markanda rivers has further worsened the situation, with 45,775 cusecs from Tangri and 43,871 cusecs from Markanda adding to the Ghaggar’s volume.

Patiala Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav inspected the situation at Badshahpur village today, while Sangrur officials advised residents near Makroor Sahib to evacuate with their livestock. Many families have already started leaving their homes out of fear. Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal also reviewed the water flow during rainfall.
