A strong cold wave has intensified across North India, bringing freezing temperatures and dense fog to several regions. Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh recorded minimum temperatures between 4 °C and 7°C, indicating a significant drop from previous days. Meanwhile, many areas in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh witnessed sub-zero temperatures, with the Amarnath Yatra base camp emerging as the coldest location at – 4°C.

In the national capital Delhi, the minimum temperature settled at 6.5°C. Punjab’s Faridkot recorded 4.4°C, while Haryana’s Narnaul shivered at 4.6°C, making them some of the coldest places in the plains. Chandigarh also felt the chill with a minimum of 8.2°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of dense fog across several parts of Himachal Pradesh until Wednesday. Many regions in Kashmir, including Srinagar, Qazigund, Kupwara, and Kokernag, recorded temperatures close to or below freezing. Srinagar reported –0.9°C, Kupwara –0.8°C, and Kokernag 1.1°C.
The IMD stated that Sunday would remain generally cloudy and dry, with chances of light snowfall in the higher reaches of northern and central Kashmir. In Himachal Pradesh, a yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in parts of Bilaspur’s Bhakra Dam area and Mandi’s Balh Valley until Wednesday.
Punjab and Haryana are also experiencing a sharp rise in cold conditions, with night temperatures dropping further. Experts suggest that the cold wave may continue for the next few days, affecting visibility, transportation, and daily activities across the northern states.
