The Supreme Court today rejected an urgent request to hear businessman Amandeep Singh Dhall’s appeal challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision to deny him bail in a corruption case. Dhall is involved in an alleged excise policy scam. Advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Dhall, sought an early hearing, but a bench consisting of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujal Bhuiyan turned down the request.
The bench emphasized the need to prioritize other pending cases, stating, “We have to think about other poor litigants as well. We cannot ignore the process of the apex court.” Dhall, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April last year, has been embroiled in this case linked to irregularities in Delhi’s excise policy.
The court’s refusal to expedite the hearing means Dhall will have to wait for a standard listing of his appeal, as the court reiterated its commitment to fairness in handling all cases. The excise policy case has seen multiple arrests and legal proceedings, with Dhall being one of the key figures under investigation by the CBI.
