A woman vandalized the nameplate of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis outside his office in the state’s ‘Mantralaya’ Bhawan (Secretariat) in South Mumbai on Thursday evening. The incident has sparked concerns over the security of the state government headquarters.
Fadnavis, who also holds the Home Ministry portfolio in the Eknath Shinde government, was not present in his sixth-floor office at the time of the incident. The woman broke the nameplate, threw it on the ground, and reportedly attempted to damage flower pots outside the office before leaving.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Praveen Munde, addressing the media, said the woman, a resident of central Mumbai, appears to be “mentally disturbed.” A police team visited her home on Friday to counsel and advise her against repeating such actions.
The incident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m., has prompted questions about the adequacy of security at the Mantralaya. While no major damage was done, the breach has raised concerns regarding the safety of government offices and high-ranking officials.
