A tragic fire broke out during New Year celebrations at a bar in the Swiss Alps, killing at least 40 people and injuring more than 50 others. Many of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could rise further. The incident has shocked Switzerland and the international community, as many foreign tourists were among the victims.

The fire occurred around 1:30 a.m. at a bar called “Le Constellation” in the famous alpine ski resort of Crans-Montana, located in the Valais canton. At the time of the incident, more than 100 people were inside the building celebrating the New Year. Flames spread quickly, trapping many people and causing panic inside the crowded venue.

Valais Attorney General Beatrice Pilloud confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. However, experts have not yet been able to enter the damaged building due to safety concerns and debris. Authorities say it may take time before clear answers emerge.

Local councillor Mathias Reynard said the number of injured was so high that the regional hospital’s intensive care unit and operating theatres were quickly filled to full capacity. Emergency services worked through the night to rescue victims and provide urgent medical care.

Police spokesperson Gaetan Lethien stated that several victims lost their lives at the scene, while many others suffered serious burns and smoke inhalation. A reception centre and a helpline have been set up to support affected families and relatives seeking information.

Crans-Montana is an internationally popular ski resort that attracts large numbers of tourists every year. A press conference has been scheduled by police authorities to provide further updates. The tragedy has cast a shadow over New Year celebrations and raised serious questions about safety measures at crowded tourist venues.
