Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today made it clear that the Punjab government will not provide any financial incentives in its upcoming industrial policy. Speaking at the inauguration of industrial committees, he said that giving subsidies is not a sustainable way to promote growth.
Kejriwal stated that the government does not have enough funds for subsidies but will ensure a supportive environment for industries to operate and grow. He advised industrial committees not to focus on subsidies in their suggestions for the new policy, assuring them that their other recommendations would be implemented.
He explained that many states offer subsidies, but when they face financial crises and stop them, industries move to other states. Relying on subsidies alone, he said, cannot lead to long-term industrial development.
Kejriwal added that the new industrial policy will be released by the end of this year, and the aim of the AAP government is to make Punjab a hub of industry and trade. He indirectly told industrialists to focus on sustainable business models rather than expecting government handouts.
Recently, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav had offered incentives worth ₹15,600 crore to Ludhiana’s industrialists.
