A rifle, several grenades, and RPG shells have been seized in Manipur’s Bishnupur district during a search operation in Machin Mano hills. The police reported the recovery on Monday, which included a rifle with a magazine, two rocket shells, an RPG charger, three high-explosive (HE) grenades, and one Chinese grenade.
The operation was part of ongoing efforts to control the violence that has plagued Manipur. The state has seen over 200 deaths and thousands displaced due to clashes between the Meitei community from the Imphal Valley and the Kuki community from the surrounding hilly regions. The conflict, which started in May, continues to destabilize the region, leading to widespread suffering and destruction. The recovery of weapons highlights the serious nature of the ongoing unrest.
Authorities are working to bring the situation under control, but tensions remain high. Security forces continue their efforts to disarm groups and bring peace to the region. However, the presence of such weapons in the area adds to the complexity of restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur.
