On Sunday, former U.S. President Donald Trump praised the leadership of India and Pakistan for reaching a ceasefire agreement. He called their decision “strong and unshakable” and said it had greatly increased their legacy. Trump shared his message through a post on Truth Social, highlighting the importance of peace and cooperation between the two countries.
India and Pakistan agreed on Saturday to observe a ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and international borders. This decision came after a period of heightened tension, especially after Indian forces targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Trump said, “I am proud of the strong and firm leadership of both India and Pakistan. They have shown the strength, wisdom, and determination to understand that it is time to stop the ongoing attacks that could have led to the deaths of so many innocent people.” He added, “Hundreds of thousands of good and innocent people could have died! Your brave decision has made your legacy much stronger.”
He also mentioned that the United States was proud to help both nations reach this historic and brave agreement, even though it was not discussed in detail publicly. Trump said he plans to increase trade with both India and Pakistan and expressed his willingness to work with them to find a long-lasting solution to the Kashmir issue. “I will work with both of you to see if a solution can be found for Kashmir, even after a thousand years,” he wrote. “May God bless the leadership of India and Pakistan for doing the right thing.”
The announcement by India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, confirmed that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries had agreed to stop all firing and military actions across land, air, and sea starting Saturday at 5 PM. This statement was made shortly after Trump’s message about the ceasefire.
The situation had become tense in recent weeks due to cross-border firing and military actions. The attack in Pahalgam had led India to strike terror camps across the border, increasing fears of full-scale conflict. However, the ceasefire agreement has brought hope that the two nations can step back from violence and move towards peace.
Trump’s comments reflect his continued interest in playing a role in South Asian peace efforts. While previous efforts by the U.S. to mediate in Kashmir have often faced challenges, his statement suggests he still sees a role for America in helping to create stability in the region.
The ceasefire agreement is being seen as a positive step by many around the world. Peace between India and Pakistan has long been hoped for, and this development may open the door for future talks and better relations.
As tensions ease, the world is watching to see if India and Pakistan can continue on the path of peace and cooperation. The involvement and support of global leaders like Donald Trump may help create more opportunities for dialogue and resolution of long-standing issues like Kashmir.
