Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has accused the Congress party of using Olympians Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia as pawns in a larger conspiracy to take control of the wrestling federation and target the BJP. His remarks came after Phogat and Punia joined the Congress party.
In an interview with PTI Videos, Singh alleged that the entire scheme was orchestrated by former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. According to Singh, Hooda aimed to regain control of the wrestling federation after his son, Dipendra Singh Hooda, lost the federation’s presidency in the 2012 elections.
Singh claimed that Phogat and Punia were merely tools in this political maneuvering. He said, “Punia and Phogat were the pioneers. They were used as pawns by Bhupinder Hooda, the Congress, and the Congress family.” He further accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the party of consistently engaging in such tactics to undermine the BJP and its ideology.
Singh’s accusations highlight the ongoing tensions between the BJP and Congress, with the wrestling federation being a new battleground in their political rivalry.
