In a bid to address the pressing issues faced by farmers across the country, the Congress party has unveiled five concrete guarantees aimed at tackling agricultural challenges from their root.
The first guarantee promises the statutory status of Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the Swaminathan Commission formula, ensuring fair remuneration for farmers’ produce.
The second guarantee entails the establishment of a permanent ‘Agricultural Debt Waiver Commission’ tasked with waiving off farmers’ loans and determining the amount of loan forgiveness, providing much-needed relief to distressed farmers.
Under the third guarantee, Congress pledges to ensure direct payment to bank accounts within 30 days in the event of crop loss by reforming the existing insurance plan, easing the financial burden on farmers during times of adversity.
The fourth guarantee focuses on formulating a new import-export policy with farmers’ interests at the forefront, aiming to strike a balance between domestic production and international trade to safeguard farmers’ livelihoods.
Lastly, Congress vows to make farmers GST-free by eliminating the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from agricultural commodities, easing the financial strain on farmers and fostering a conducive environment for agricultural growth.
With these five guarantees, Congress aims to alleviate the hardships faced by farmers and usher in a new era of prosperity and sustainability in the agricultural sector, signaling a commitment to prioritize the welfare of those who feed the nation.
