A Delhi court today granted interim bail to Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, in a terror funding case. Rashid, who was recently elected as a Lok Sabha member after defeating former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the 2024 elections from Baramulla, received interim bail until October 2. This bail allows him to campaign for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
The decision was made by Additional Sessions Judge Chandra Jeet Singh in response to Rashid’s petition seeking interim bail specifically to participate in the election campaign. Rashid argued that his presence was crucial for his party’s success in the assembly elections.
The court’s order temporarily relieves Rashid of his legal troubles, enabling him to focus on his political activities in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the legal proceedings in the terror funding case remain ongoing, and Rashid will have to return to court after the bail period ends on October 2. The case continues to draw significant attention due to Rashid’s high-profile political career and the serious nature of the charges against him.
