In a significant political development, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) working president Hemant Soren is set to become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand once again. This follows the resignation of current Chief Minister Champai Soren, who stepped down as per the decision of the JMM-led coalition. The announcement came after a meeting of alliance leaders and MLAs at Champai Soren’s residence, where Hemant Soren was unanimously elected as the leader of the JMM Legislature Party.
Following his resignation, Champai Soren stated, “I have resigned as per the decision of the JMM-led coalition. Our alliance is strong.” He further added, “Everyone knows what happened to Hemant Sorenji. I have fulfilled the responsibility assigned by the coalition partners. Now the coalition has given a decision in favor of Hemant Soren ji.”
Hemant Soren, who had previously resigned as Chief Minister on January 31 before his arrest in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam, was released on bail on June 28 after nearly five months in jail. He will now take oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
The meeting at Champai Soren’s residence was attended by key political figures, including Congress Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir, state president Rajesh Thakur, and Hemant Soren’s brother Basant and wife Kalpana Soren.
