The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Bihar has urged the Election Commission to reconsider the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in favor of the traditional ‘voting by slip’ method. In a meeting with a delegation led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, RJD’s vice president Varishan Patel, state spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan, and state general secretary Mukand Singh emphasized the need for transparent elections through ballot papers.
Adding to the chorus, JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh requested the Election Commission to streamline the election process in Bihar, advocating for fewer phases. Simultaneously, CPI (ML) and CPI (M) expressed reservations about EVMs. CPI(M) cited a news report alleging ties between an EVM manufacturer’s directors and the BJP, raising concerns about the impartiality of the Election Commission in conducting fair elections.
As the political landscape grapples with concerns over electoral transparency, the debate between traditional methods and technological advancements in voting systems continues to shape the discourse ahead of upcoming elections in Bihar.
