In a heartening display of unity, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan, addressing the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, announced his decision to donate one month’s salary towards the medical treatment of a class 10 student injured during the recent clash with police amid the farmers’ movement. The child, hailing from a financially disadvantaged family with meager land holdings, sustained a bullet wound in the arm.

Expressing deep concern for the student’s well-being, Speaker Sandhawan urged fellow MLAs and members in the House to contribute towards the child’s medical expenses. He disclosed that the student’s father owns only one and a half acres of land, emphasizing the family’s impoverished circumstances.

The injured student, undergoing treatment at Amandeep Hospital after being shot during the confrontation with Haryana Police, is reported to have sustained damage to his fingers. Speaker Sandhawan visited the hospital to meet the child, visibly moved by the situation.

In a show of bipartisan support, opposition leader Raja Waring pledged to donate his entire month’s salary for the child’s treatment, echoing the sentiment of compassion. Additionally, MLA Dr. Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi expressed his commitment to contribute 10 thousand rupees from his salary towards the cause. This collective effort highlights the humane response of Punjab’s legislative assembly in addressing the needs of a young victim caught in the crossfire.
