Violence in Manipur’s Jiribam district resulted in the deaths of five people, while in Bishnupur, a terrorist rocket attack killed one person and injured six others. In response, security forces destroyed three terrorist bunkers in Sualsang and Laika Mualsau villages of Churachandpur district.
High-level security meetings have been held to review the law and order situation, with authorities closely monitoring the developments. According to a police officer, terrorists shot dead a sleeping person, leading to further violence between two communities in Jiribam. This clash resulted in the deaths of four armed individuals, including three terrorists.
Earlier this week, arson broke out in Jiribam when village volunteers set fire to a retired police officer’s vacant home. The Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee (Ferzawal and Jiribam) denied involvement in the incident.
Despite a peace agreement between the Matei and Hamar communities, violence was reported in Assam’s Cachar district on August 1. The police confirmed the destruction of bunkers in Mualsang and Laika Muasau, with army helicopters now conducting aerial patrols. After drones were spotted in Bishnupur and Imphal East districts, residents turned off their lights, creating an atmosphere of fear.
