In a major anti-drug operation, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police seized methamphetamine tablets worth ₹173.73 crore at the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram’s Champhai district. The operation took place at a border crossing point in Zokhawthar on February 9 after officials acted on a tip-off.
According to reports, the joint team spotted suspects carrying the illegal consignment and ordered them to stop. However, sensing danger, the suspects fled, abandoning the contraband. The police have now taken possession of the seized drugs for further investigation and legal action.
Methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘ice’ or ‘crystal meth,’ is a highly addictive drug with effects similar to cocaine. It is known for its strong euphoric impact but can have severe health consequences, including fatal overdoses.
The Indo-Myanmar border has been a hotspot for drug trafficking, with authorities continuously stepping up efforts to curb the illegal trade. The successful seizure highlights the ongoing fight against drug smuggling and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to prevent narcotics from entering the country. Further investigations are underway to identify those involved in the smuggling network.
