The upcoming IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans on Tuesday promises an exciting captaincy battle between Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill. Both captains have a lot to prove this season as they lead their respective teams with high expectations.
Shreyas Iyer’s Leadership Experience
Iyer is one of the most successful captains in IPL history. Under his leadership, Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL title last year, and in 2020, he guided Delhi Capitals to the final. Now, he aims to bring Punjab Kings their first-ever IPL trophy. Punjab has never won the title, making this season crucial for Iyer and his team.
Shubman Gill’s Growing Leadership Role
On the other hand, Gill is considered the future captain of Indian cricket. He was recently appointed vice-captain of India’s ODI team. Last year, after Hardik Pandya moved to Mumbai Indians, Gill took over as Gujarat’s captain, but his team finished eighth. However, Gujarat had impressive performances in previous seasons, winning the title in 2022 and finishing as runners-up in 2023 under Hardik’s leadership.
Punjab Kings’ Batting Strength
Punjab will rely on key batsmen, including captain Iyer, wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis, explosive opener Prabhsimran Singh, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, and power-hitter Glenn Maxwell.
