President Droupadi Murmu: “India Aims to Win Hearts, Not Nations”

President Droupadi Murmu, during her visit to Portugal, interacted with Indian researchers at a special event and shared an inspiring message. She said that India is not interested in conquering nations but in winning hearts through peace, knowledge, and culture.

While addressing the Indian researchers, she encouraged them to be proud representatives of India abroad. She emphasized that their identity is linked with their homeland, and through their work, they carry the image of India across the world.

President Murmu also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and visited the Radha-Krishna temple, where she offered prayers. During the interactive session, she answered all questions asked by the researchers. She recalled an incident from one of her foreign visits, where a senior leader asked her whether India wanted to dominate the world. She replied, “India does not want to conquer the world; we want to win hearts.”

Speaking on the progress of women in India, the President expressed her pride in seeing women achieving success in various fields. She mentioned that Indian women are excelling as medal winners, senior officials, and leaders in many areas, and that their achievements make the country proud.

She also praised the people of Portugal, calling them friendly and welcoming. She said Portugal is a true friend of India.

In a major diplomatic development, Portugal has supported India’s bid for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. Addressing the media at the end of the President’s two-day visit, Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal stated that both countries are working closely on multilateral platforms like the United Nations.

The President’s visit has strengthened the friendship between India and Portugal, while also encouraging the Indian community abroad to remain connected to their roots and represent their country with pride.
