Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has backed NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar’s statement about a shocking meeting before the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. Pawar had earlier claimed that two people met him and promised to secure victory in 160 out of 288 constituencies for the opposition.
Raut said the same two individuals also met Uddhav Thackeray before both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. According to Raut, these people told Thackeray they could ensure wins in 60–65 difficult seats through “EVM arrangements.” However, Thackeray refused to accept their help, saying he trusted the democratic process and the Election Commission.
Raut explained that these individuals approached Thackeray again two months before the Assembly polls, repeating their offer. They even hinted that those in power had a plan involving EVMs and voter lists. Still, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leadership declined, saying they believed in winning through people’s support.
Sharad Pawar revealed that he had introduced these two people to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi reportedly ignored their claims and said the opposition should focus on directly reaching the public instead of such dealings.
These revelations have caused a stir in political circles, especially since Rahul Gandhi recently accused the BJP and the Election Commission of “stealing votes.” Raut suggested that while they did not accept the offer, there might be some truth in what these individuals said, given the current political environment.
The claims raise serious concerns about the integrity of the election process and the alleged misuse of technology in voting. Both Pawar and Raut have stressed their belief in democracy but have also hinted at possible manipulation attempts. The matter has now sparked debates across Maharashtra’s political scene.
