The Punjab government has announced holidays in all colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutes of the state till September 3. This decision comes after eight districts of Punjab were hit by floods and continuous heavy rainfall since last night. The announcement was made by Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
The minister stated that the responsibility for students staying in hostels lies with the respective college and university administrations. They must ensure the safety, care, and proper facilities for the students during this period. He also appealed to all institutions to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the local administration for safety.
It is worth noting that due to worsening flood conditions, the Punjab government had already extended holidays in all schools of the state till September 3. As the situation became more critical today, the decision was expanded to include colleges and universities as well.
The government’s move is aimed at ensuring the safety of students and staff while the administration continues rescue and relief efforts in flood-affected areas. Citizens are advised to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and cooperate with officials in managing the crisis.
