Changing Tone from Trump
In recent days, former US President Donald Trump’s tone toward India has shifted. After imposing a 50% tariff on Indian goods, he is now praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and calling him a “good friend.” Despite the trade disputes, Trump has not missed a chance to appreciate Modi’s leadership.
Modi Responds to Trump’s Words
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now responded to Trump’s remarks. Modi said, “We deeply value President Trump’s feelings and his positive assessment of our relationship. India and the United States share a broad, visionary, and global strategic partnership.” His statement highlighted the importance of India-US ties beyond temporary disagreements.

Trump’s Statement on India-US Relations
At the White House, Trump said, “I will always be friendly with Modi. He is a great Prime Minister. India and the US have a special relationship. There is nothing to worry about.” He also reminded reporters of Modi’s earlier visit to the US, where they met at the Rose Garden.
Bigger Concerns
Experts note that Trump’s harsh tariffs and comments by his allies have strained India-US ties. Some fear this could push India closer to China and Russia, who are seen as America’s rivals.
