The disruption in IndiGo’s flight operations entered its seventh consecutive day, causing major inconvenience for passengers across the country. On Monday, the troubled airline cancelled nearly 250 flights from Bengaluru and Delhi airports alone. The aviation regulator DGCA extended the deadline for IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers and Chief Operating Officer Isidro Porqueras to respond to its ‘show-cause’ notice, giving them time until 6 pm on Monday.

The notice, issued on Saturday, stated that the large-scale operational breakdown points to serious failures in planning, monitoring, and resource management. IndiGo was earlier asked to reply within 24 hours. According to sources, about 127 flights were cancelled at Bengaluru airport—65 arrivals and 62 departures. At Delhi airport, 134 flights were cancelled, including 75 departures and 59 arrivals.
The airline, partly owned by Rahul Bhatia and based in Gurugram, has been facing criticism from both passengers and the government since December 2, when massive cancellations began. IndiGo has cited changes in pilot duty norms and new flight regulation rules as reasons for delays and cancellations. However, the chaos has left lakhs of passengers stranded at airports across India, struggling with long waits, missed connections, and lack of clear communication. The situation continues to raise serious concerns about operational preparedness and crisis management of India’s largest airline.
