According to local police officials, the group cooked chicken and fish at a residence to celebrate the New Year. After returning to their homes, several people began to feel unwell and showed symptoms of severe food poisoning. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The deceased has been identified as 53-year-old Pandu. Doctors declared him dead on arrival, while the remaining 12 people were admitted for medical care. Hospital authorities have stated that the condition of the hospitalized individuals is currently stable and they are responding well to treatment.
A Jagatgirigutta police officer said that the food consumed during the party is suspected to be the cause of the poisoning. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine whether the food was contaminated or improperly stored or cooked.

Samples of the food are likely to be examined as part of the investigation. The incident has raised concerns about food safety during festive celebrations and serves as a reminder to handle and cook food carefully, especially meat and seafood, to avoid such tragic outcomes.
